How do you feel about your audience?

               When I write, I have two mindsets: is this piece going to be graded? or is this piece for “recreation”?  If a piece is going to be graded by a professor, I am very conscience of my audience, the professor.  I will try to play and write to his or her viewpoint on the subject to prevent losing points.  I will put my pride in my pocket and do what it takes to get a good grade.  However, if I am not writing a piece that will be graded, I write my honest opinions and do not worry about offending my audience if they disagree with me. If you are going to critique my writing or ideas, you can refute my arguments and if you are successful, I will concur.  However, Weezer said in their hit song, “Pork and Beans”, “Imma do the things that I wanna do, I ain’t got a thing to prove to you”.  Weezer wrote that line in order to take a stand against their recording label executives who wanted Weezer to change their sound for a more commercial and current audience.  Rivers Cuomo, lead singer and song writer for Weezer, used the song in order to tell the record company that he (and the rest of Weezer) will play and sing what they want to and they will not be pressured by the record label to change their sound.  I have a similar mindset.  I hope that everybody likes what I write, but if someone doesn’t, it does not justify altering my opinion.
